How to switch from offline to online in Outlook



In Outlook you get the visual cue that you are working offline or online. You can see this in status bar at the bottom of your Outlook window. Using Outlook in offline does not allow you to send or receive mails until you go online. So if you want to disable work offline function in Outlook then you need to switch from offline to online in Outlook.

You can work in offline by choice. But when you want to switch from offline to online in Outlook then you can choose Work Offline to reconnect in Outlook, on the Send/Receive tab.

For different reasons you may be disconnected from Outlook. Below are few examples of some of the possible reasons.

·         If your Internet connection is working, then there might be an issue with the mail server.

·         If you are able to log onto your email from a website then you should check to see whether you can receive and send email that way. If you find that email is not working on the website, then you should call your technical support for your email service provider for help.

·         If you are able to send and receive mail on the website, then your mail server is working fine. But you may need to update your computer or there might be a problem with your account settings.

You can follow below tips to reconnect to Outlook:

1.      You can choose Work Offline and check your status bar on the Send/Receive tab. If you see the status as Working Offline, then repeat the action until you see the status changing to connected.

2.      You can install any required updates.

3.       In order to eliminate the possibility that there is a fault in your current Outlook profile then you can create a new profile. If you open Outlook with this new profile and you still find it disconnected then you can try removing your account and then adding it back again.

a.       Right click your account name in the Folder pane and after that choose Remove <name of the account>.

b.      Then you can follow the steps in adding the account again to proceed.
